I’m currently giving a great deal of thought to the future of Yarn Over, especially the web section. I can’t help but wonder whether it has lost its relevance. When I first started Yarn Over, finding all things lace knitting on the web was pretty hard, but this is no longer the case. So maybe it’s time to stop - what do you think?

I’m currently working on - as usual - yet another shawl. But - also as usual - I cannot find any batteries for the the camera, so instead I’ll tell you about a coming project.
For a while I’ve been looking for something I could could knit for my sister, and when I saw the preview of the Winter ‘07 Interweave Knits I knew that the Refined Aran Jacket was what I’d been looking for. My sister has indicated that yes, this is indeed something she would actually wear, and a couple of weeks ago I was lucky enough to find a copy of the magazine at Borders, The Curve. Bendigo Woolen Mills has a sale right now (ends on the 14th), so I’ve gone ahead and ordered some yarn for it. Classic 8 ply in bayleaf green. Not my colour at all, but hopefully just right for my sister who prefers muted greens. It’s been more than 10 years since I last knitted something with sleeves in an adult size, so this could turn out to be quite interesting!

I finished this a while ago, but haven’t posted about it because I wanted the recipient to be the first one to see it.

Click on the image for more pictures.
Design: my own
Yarn: New Zealand Crossbred Wool 12/2, 600mt/100gr
Needles: 3.75 mm bamboo circular
To like or not: Not only did the recipient like it, she loved it! I’m honoured - and the butterflies are gone!
Addendum: I like simplicity and my shawls don’t tell stories. The stitch patterns are just that, stitches arranged in patterns that are pleasing to my eyes.
This shawl was different. A mother lost her son, and though I know her only from her blog I had to do something more than just offer my condolences. This shawl had to say something. Something about leaves on the tree of life, and how some of them fall off much to soon, but live on as beautiful flowers in the hearts of other people. It means a lot to me that she liked it.

Done and posted to the intended recipient.

Pattern : The Knitter’s Handy Book Of Sweater Patterns by Ann Budd
Yarn: Harmony by Bendigo Woolen Mills
Needles: 3.5 and 3.75 mm
To like or not: Like it a lot except for a silly oopsie in the bottom rib band which I only discovered after I was all done. DN and his DM are just going to have to live with it!

As much as I love lace I don’t think I’ll ever get bored with stocking stitch in the round.

Dear O,
I know I told your mother I’d put a picture up of your sweater today, but it seems we are all out of batteries for for the digital camera. Anyway, the knitting is progressing nicely. I’ve finished both sleeves and am halfway up to the armholes on the main body. I am using the same yarn I used for your brother’s sweater, but in a colourway called “ocean”. I think I’ll be able to finish and mail it by Friday
Lots of love, Tante Hanne
PS: The cousins say “hi” - Uncle N is not around. He is at LIMA 2007, and won’t be back until Thursday.

The yarn I wrote about in my earlier post is New Zealand Lammeuld by Filcolana, and they still haven’t haven’t responded to my complaint about the bad skein of yarn. I doubt they ever will.

I would love to knit this. Alas, it must remain but a dream.
